Creamy Tahini Sauce, Three Ways

Serve this ultra-creamy tahini sauce with grilled meats or roasted vegetables, or use it as a base for a silky avocado dip or an herby salad dressing.

Hold-The-Lime Guacamole

Lime is an integral part of great guacamole—or so we thought. Turns out, you get to taste and enjoy the pure flavor of avocado better in guacamole without the lime.

Fennel-Honey Granola

What you really want to do with this granola is make the be-all, end-all of yogurt parfaits.

Pok Pok-Style Hot Wings with Peanuts and Cilantro

Want crispy and delicious wings fast? Avoid the mess of frying oil and go for a quick oven-roast. Inspired by the version served by chef Andy Ricker at his Brooklyn and Portland Pok Pok restaurants, these wings get doused in a sweet and savory glaze and rolled in a spicy, crunchy topping.

Upgrade Your Summer Dips and Spreads

Your chips won't know what hit them.

How to Turn Radishes Into an Addictive Snack

What do you do when a summer CSA hits you with bunches of radishes? Go fast and French on 'em.

Old-Fashioned Crumb Cake

My dad grew up in the Bronx of the 1920s and was very fond of the yeasty crumb cakes found in many German-Jewish bakeries there. He calls the moist, tender cakes "crumb buns" and loves to eat them with a cup of coffee.

Zucchini-Herb Fritters with Garlic Yogurt

Squeezing the liquid out of the zucchini is the secret to crisp fritters. (The potato helps, too.)

Gluten-Free Orange Almond Coconut Muffins

A combination of brown rice flour, almond flour, and arrowroot replaces wheat flour in these delicious gluten-free muffins. The flavors of orange, coconut, and almond blend nicely here, with maple syrup adding a subtle back note of sweetness. Serve these for breakfast, brunch, or an afternoon snack.

Breakfast Cookies

Before I had children, I swore up and down that I'd never be one of those parents kowtowing to the little picky eaters' preferences at mealtimes. And then I had actual children. I'm no parenting expert, but my personal studies have shown that anytime you can legitimately make a meal out of a cookie and milk, you're golden. As it happens, grown-ups won't turn these down, either. And, bonus! When made with flax "eggs" and gluten-free oats, these wholesome gems are vegan and gluten-free.

Coffee Coffee Coffee Cake

This decadent cake is infused with rich coffee flavor in three forms: brewed coffee, espresso powder, and coffee liqueur.

Homemade Coconut Yogurt

This homemade yogurt works well as a dairy-free alternative. We prefer making our own coconut milk over using canned—the flavor is much more fresh. To reuse the pressed coconut, dry it out in a low oven until no longer moist, then use in baked goods or sprinkle over yogurt.

The Snack That's Taking Over for Avocado Toast

It's time to top your bread with something bigger.

Dream Bars

These dream bars have made the rounds. My mother's friend Phyllis Grossman passed the recipe to my mother when I was growing up. My mother passed the recipe to me, and I have since passed it along to friends. We all make it. I have baked versions with milk chocolate and hot fudge, but the best filling by far is bittersweet chocolate. I melt the chocolate, spread it on a sheet pan and chill it, break it into shards, and press it into the dough. Then I spread a brown sugar meringue on top. I warn you—as I warn every new employee at Hot Chocolate—proceed with caution. You have to either never eat these or succumb to the fact that you will be addicted forever to Dream Bars.
