Ham and Pineapple Sandwiches

My mom thinks these might be more ’60s than ’80s, but they sound ’80s to me, so here they are. These open-faced grilled cheese sandwiches are easy to make and sure to get a comment or two from your friends.

Recipe information

  • Yield

    makes 24 pieces

Ingredients

6 slices white bread
6 slices ham
6 pineapple rings
6 slices Swiss cheese

Preparation

  1. Step 1

    Preheat the broiler to high.

    Step 2

Place the bread on a baking sheet and place under the broiler for 2 to 3 minutes on each side, or until lightly browned. (This can also be done in a toaster.) Place a piece of ham on each piece of bread and top with a pineapple ring and a piece of cheese. Place the pan under the broiler and cook for 5 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and begins to brown. (Watch them carefully because they can go from brown to black quickly.) Remove the pan from the broiler, cut each sandwich diagonally into 4 pieces, and place on a serving platter.
