Tempeh

Ingredients

Preparation

  1. Bitter

    Step 1

The flavor of tempeh can be a bit bitter, which doesn’t bother some people. If it bothers you, steaming it mitigates some of the bitterness. Steam your tempeh for 10 to 15 minutes if you plan to continue cooking it in some other way afterward, and for 20 minutes if that’s all the cooking it’s going to get. If it’s already cooked and too bitter for you, there’s not much to do, but it does go well with some nice bland rice.

  2. Bland

    Step 2

Tempeh takes well to marinades and sauces with a variety of flavors, such as soy sauce, vinegar, citrus, coconut, ginger, and peanut butter.

  3. Moldy

    Step 3

What color is the mold? Tempeh is fermented and commonly has white or black veins of mold. It’s fine to eat. Honest. (You wouldn’t throw away your blue cheese because of a little mold, would you?) Other colors of mold, though, like green for instance, indicate that it’s spoiled.
